Why is my handmade soap separating in the mold even after 48 hours?
The soap has been setting for 48 hours but has "layers". The bottom is pretty solid but the top is gel-like, really thick. Should I let it sit for longer or just incorporate it into the rebatching?
I’m just getting into the basics of soap making so I can’t answer your question but I can give you a great recomendation.

How warm is it where you are storing the soap to dry? I had the same problem when I first got into soap making and came to find out that it was because it was too warm in the area I was working in. I put it in the fridge for a couple of hours and it molded perfectly.
If you try this and it doesn’t work you should just incorporate it into rebatching and watch your mixture because then something just isn’t right.

I’m no soaping expert, but a couple of things come to mind. Did you properly stir your batch and get it to trace before pouring into the mould? The temperature of the place you are working in / extreme weather change has also been known to be a culprit in separation sometimes. If you use a reliable lye calculator, a fairly basic recipe such as 50% hard & 50% soft oils, use full water, and get your temps down to about 40 degrees C before pouring you shouldn’t have any problems at all. You could try rebatching it if you can be bothered. Good Luck!
